What is believed to be one of the most contemporary and functional churchman’s homes yet built in Christchurch the new vicarage at St. Martins Church of England. Soreydon, was officially dedicated bv the visiting B’short of Southern Victoria and Nvanza (the Rt. Rev. M. L. Wiggins! at a special ceremony held in the church grounds on Sunday afternoon. A large number of persons were present, including the Archdeacon of Sumner (the Ven. S. E. Woods). The newlv completed building, standing behind the recently built church on Lincoln road, was designed by M r John A. Hendry. Built of buff concrete blocks the building’s exterior has been planned to match the Charteris Bay stone of the church. With a glazed entrance hall, four bedrooms, dining and living rooms and study, the vicarage has polished timber floors and large expanses of glassed-in room space. Hie whole floor area is 1900 square feet built on a long narrow site. Outdoor colour is based on a dark grey, white and olive green motif to tone with the nearby church.

The present vicar is the Rev. R. F. N. (Roger) Thompson.
