F ranks Beats Yesberg (JUS. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Sept. 3. Two Canterbury players fought out a tense final of the New Zealand snooker chamoionship at Auckland on Saturday evening when R. Franks beat T. Yesberg, the title-holder, by four frames to two. Franks, who held the title in 1964, won the first three frames convincingly, 62-30. 62-37, 55-30, and appeared he’ded for an easy win. Yesberg, however, retaliated strongly, winning the next two frames, 63-22 59-35. making a break of 40 from pinks and blacks in the process. Yesberg looked like retaining the title when he held a commanding lead in the sixth game, but with strain beginning to tell, he failed with a comparatively easy green. This left Franks in a position to pot the remaining colours, and he won the frame, 56-45. The championships next year will be held in Invercargill. Northland will atage the tournament in 1963.
