EXCHANGE AT KAIAPOI

Wider Area At Base Rates (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, September 1. An extension of the base rate area of the Kaiapoi telephone exchange is intended. This will coincide with the opening of the new automatic exchange at the end of 1962. The Postmaster - General (Mr Kinsella) advised Mr H L. Pickering (Government, Hurunui) of this development today. “Extension reticulation work in this larger exchange area will make it possible to give predominantly individual line service to many subscribers, and will permit the base rate area to be more than doubled,” said Mr Pickering. “Subscribers within this extended area will pay rental in line with the size of the exchange, without the addition of the former mileage charge.”
