LOSS OF £1467
Ashburton Club
During the last season, the Ashburton Racing Club had been very unfortunate with racing dates, the chairman (Mr R. J. Mulligan) said in his report to be presented to the annual meeting on Tuesday. “Four Saturday dates were alloted but only the spring meeting was held on a Saturday. A clash with the General Election date necessitated a change to the Friday, and bad weather caused postponements to the Tuesday after both the autumn and winter meetings. At the summer meeting on November 30. fields were of disappointing size, but good fields competed at the spring, autumn and winter meetings,” the report said. The • only improvements completed during the year were some additional seating in the main stand and three new race patrol stands in conjunction with the Ashburton Trotting Club. Tracks, grounds and buildings had been well maintained. This year the farming operations carried out jointly with the Ashburton Trotting Club had resulted in a profit of £BO4, the report ‘ said. Stakes paid totalled £9625, as compared with £9525 last i year. Totalisator turnover on-course was £101,538 10s, against £ 123,193 10s, and offcourse £340,413 15s, against £260,429 15s. The loss on ; the year’s operations was £ 1467 9s 7d after charging £925 Is lOd for depreciation. The Government received £41.047 10s 6d in taxes. The club had 346 members.
