Parliament’s Diary
Four new measures were introduced when the House of Representatives resumed yesterday morning. They were the Land and Income Tax Retention Bill, the Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill, the Hydatids Amendment Bill, and the Poultry Amendment Bill. All were read a first time.
Members asked Ministers 10 questions. Papers tabled included a visa agreement with Italy and the annual reports of the Air Department, the Tourist and Publicity Department, and the Child Welfare Division. The House then proceeded with the second reading debate on the Dairy Production and Marketing Control Bill, which was accorded a
second reading after four hours’ debate. The speakers were:— Government: Mr D. J. Carter (Raglan), Mr A. McCready (Otaki), Mr G. A. Walsh (Tauranga), the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Hayman). Opposition: Mr C. F. Skinner (Buller), Mr J. M. Deas (Otahuhu), Mr A. H. Nordmeyer (Island Bay), the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash). The Estate and Gift Duties Amendment Bill was introduced during the afternoon and, read a first time after some committee discussion. The House was discussing the second reading of the Monetary and Economic Council Bill when it adjourned at 4.30 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
