PRESIDENT OF CENTRE

Mr G. R. Laurie To Step Down Mr G. R. Laurie, president of the Canterbury Swimming Centre for the last eight years, will not be a candidate for the office at the annual meeting of the centre on September 12. At the last meeting of the outgoing management committee last evening, he announced his intention of not seeking reelection.

Mr Laurie became president in 1952-53 after four years as vice-president. He had previously held the post of chairman in the days when swimming in Canter, bury was administered by the full centre. The centre members w.re thanked for their co-opera-tion last season by Mr Laurie. He said special thanks were due to Miss D. Brown, “the backbone of this centre for many years." “Last season was most successful competitively but not so good financially—but we will come again,” said Mr Laurie.

On behalf of the other members of the centre, Mr M. R. Ducfananton thanked Mr Laurie for his work as president.
