BRASS BAND TOUR

Cost About £25,000 The cost of sending a New Zealand band to the fourth world music competitions at Kerkrade, Holland, would be about £25,000, said the secretary of the New Zealand Brass Bands Association (Mr G. R. Mowat). He said the decision whether a band would be sent would be made at the association's management committee meeting in Wellington in two weeks. If a band was sent a television contract offered in Holland would be accepted to help reduce costs. Mr Mowat said it was also possible that the band would tour Britain and take part in major contests there, and also tour the United States before it returned to New Zealand. A preliminary inquiry had also been made for an engagement at the Toronto Fair. In the competitions at Kerkrade New Zealand had been graded into the two top divisions in its sections—superior and banner groups. Mr Mowat said a national brass band had not gone on tour since 1053 when a band toured Britain with considerable success. *
