No Press Questions
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 30. The British Secretary for Commonwealth Relations <Mr Sandys) does not want to answer questions by newspapermen while he is in Wellington, according to the United Kingdom High Commissioner’s Office. Mr Sandys is expected to make a brief prepared statement when he arrives at Wellington airport tomorrow afternoon, but he does not want to hold a formal press conference while h is here Mr Sandys takes the view that his talks with the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) and other Ministers must be completely confidential, and the purpose of the talks could be jeopardised if he spoke to the press, according to British officials. If Mr Sandys adheres to his present official programme. he will make no public speeches while he is in Wellington. His only address will be to members of Parliament at a Parliamentary luncheon next Thursday The press has not been invited to this luncheon. Mr Holvoake said today that Mr Sandys would have the right to say whether the press should be there.
