EXCHANGES OF TROOPS
Proposal By Lord Norrie
(19.2 Pres. Assn.—CopvrtgMr LONDON, June 11. Lord Norrie, the former Governor-General of New Zealand, has suggested in the House of Lords that exchanges between the Commonwealth armies should be encouraged. He said it would be “grand” to see a battalion of the Grenadier Guards in Australia for, say, 18 months, with an Australian unit stationed in Britain.
When Lord Norrie’s suggestion was put to the Minister of Defence (Mr Eyre), he said it was one well worth considering. “Of course there are such things as transport and pay to consider. From an economic point of view it might be too expensive but for morale it would be most beneficial for Commonwealth relations,” Mr Eyre said.
