EDUCATION OF MAORIS
Minister Asks For Guidance
(fil .Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 11. “I want your' counsel and guidance on the proposed Maori education foundation. an exciting concept concerning which the New Zealand people will soon be hearing a great deal more." said the Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr Hanan) yesterday afternoon. He was addressing delegates to Maori district councils gathered in Wellington to consider draft amendments to the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act which the Government proposes to introduce in the coming session of Parliament. The great need of the Maori people today, said Mr Hanan, was for leadership. Most of the problems that beset the Maori people could be overcome through good leadership. "I look to you to provide that leadership," said the Minister. "If you do. it will indeed be the beginning of a new era."
