R. J. Charles Penalised (N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. June 8 The New Zealand golfer R. J. Charles was penalised four strokes for carrying an extra club in his bag on the first day of the two-day tournament at the Wentworth course (Surrey) today. Charles discovered the extra club in his bag after he had driven from the second tee. He said the mistake was made because he had been practising with 15 clubs before the tee-off. The Australian. R. Tuohy, with 74. leads the Australian and New Zealand golfers. His score puts him equal tenth. Tire best score was a 65 by I. D. Macdonald. Much farther down the list were Ttiohy 74. A. E. Southern (New Zealand) 76. R. J. Charles (New Zealand) 80. and M. J. Busk (New Zealand) 81.
