COUNTRY GIRLS’ CLUBS
Debating Contests “That women would make good mechanics” is the subject of an inter-club debating contest being held by the Christchurch district Country Girls’ Clubs. A report on the finals of a South Island debating contest was given by Miss H Bedford to a recent meeting of the DarfieM Country Girls’ Club. The contest was held at Myrass Bush Hall, Southland, on June 6. The Darfield club (Christchurch district committee) was beaten by the Hokonui club (Western Southland district committee). The leader of the Darfield team. Miss E. Hart, was judged best speaker. The judge (Mr E. Sadlier) also commented on the dress of the Darfield team. A history of the Darfield club is being prepared. The period from its beginning until 1956 will be covered by Miss N. Mulholland, and from 1956 to 1961 by Miss H. Bedford.
