SCAFFOLDING BUCKLES

Bricks Fall From Planks

(N Z. Press Association AUCKLAND, May 29.

A middle section of tubular steel scaffolding loaded with brickwork from demolition work on the first floor buckled and partially collapsed on Saturday afternoon at a building in Gore street. Auckland. "If it had not been as strongly built as it was, a serious accident might have happened,” said Mr A. Clifford. senior inspector of factories for the Labour Department today.

When the steel supports buckled, planks holding the brickwork shot their load down behind a safety fence on the footpath. No I men were on the scaffolding at the time. They were inside the building proper. It is expected that 90 per cent, of the scaffolding will have to be dismantled and re-erected.
