TOUR OF WAR CEMETERIES
Gloucester End Greek Visit
(N.Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright) SUDA BAY (Crete), May 25. The Duke of Gloucester today ended his 15-day tour of Commonwealth war cemeteries in Greece and Turkey with a visit to Suda Bay. where 1498 Commonwealth servicemen, most of them killed in the German invasion of Crete in May, 1941. are buried.
The Duke and Duchess disembarked at Suda Bay from the Royal yacht Britannia and joined King Paul of the Hellenes and the Greek Royal family, who had arrived earlier. The Suda Bay cemetery, formed some 18 years ago, is now being renovated. From Suda Bay, the Duke and Duchess went to Maleme airfield, the scene of a fierce battle against the German parachutists in 1941. Some 70 British former servicemen are due to arrive in Greece tomorrow for a pilgrimage to war cemeteries
