FIRE DAMAGES HOUSE
Woman Rescues Baby While climbing through a window to rescue her nine-month-old baby from a burning house, a woman suffered minor cuts late yesterday morning. Mrs Joan Catherine Brodie, of 102 Bassett street, had been making a short visit to a neighbour when, shortly after 11 a.m., she saw smoke coming from her home. Mrs Brodie went immediately to the window of the baby’s room. After breaking the window, she brought the child outside. It is believed the fire broke out when a fire screen, on which clothes were drying, toppled on to an electric heater. Slight damage was done to the kitchen. Units from the Central fire station and the St. Albans station attended the fire. Mrs Brodie’s injuries did not require medical attention.
