Tributes To Mr Gillespie
The 280 persons attending the farmers’ conference at Canterbury Agricultural College on Wednesday stood briefly in silence out of respect to the former Minister of Agriculture, Mr Gillespie, who as chairman of the college board of governors was closely associated with previous conferences. The conference chairman (Mr L. P .Chapman) said that Mr Gillespie's genial and kindly nature had made him popular with everyone and the college and farmers had lost a worthy representative and friend. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr Hayman), who opened the conference, said that Mr Gillespie had made a very considerable contribution to New Zealand farming progress.
