GO-KART RACING
Wellington Beats Canterbury
(WX. Press Association) OTA KI, February 20. Go-kart racing at its best was seen at the week-end when teams from Canterbury and Wellington took part in a series of match races. Racing for the first time on a tar-sealed track, the South Islanders adapted themselves readily to the conditions. They developed surprising speed through the hairpin bends to establish a points lead at the close of the opening-day programme. On Sunday, the Wellington drivers carried the day and earned sufficient points to enable them to emerge victors by a slender margin. Sixteen-year-old Jim Smillie. of Canterbury, was judged champion driver at the meeting. He was headed once only during the two-day programme.
