RECORD JUMP CLAIMED
Three Auckland Parachutists
(W4f. Press Association) AUCKLAND. February 20. Braving sub-zero highaltitude temperatures and a 50-knot gale, three members ot the Auckland Parachute Club set an Australian and New Zealand height record yesterday with a jump from 27.068 ft—more than five miles. The three jumpers are the club instructor, Peter Dawson. a 35-year-old formpr British paratrooper. 20-year-old Bill Adams, a truck driver, and 25-year-old Tokahau Samuels. They exceeded the previous record held by Dawson and a photographer, John Charnock, by more than 7000 ft. The cold air coated Jhetr goggles with ice and obscured their vision as they plummeted earthward. Tbe wind blew them more than 20 miles from their intended landing zone at Piako airport, near Morrinsville.
