Riccarton Horticultural Society’s Show
In spite of the recent adverse weather conditions the Riccarton Horticultural Society’s summer show, held at Riccarton House, was generally a marked success, according to the secretary of the association (Mrs B. Glen). Officially opened by the Mayor of Riccarton (Mr E. J. Bradshaw) the show comprised 719 adult entries and 60 children’s entries The decorative and children’s sections received special commendation by the judges.
The judges were: cut blooms, pot plants and succulents, Mr J. Watling; dahlias and gladioli, Mr Pollard; vegetable and fruit, Mr S. Challenger; cooking and preserves, Mr Jenkins; decorative, Mrs O. Miller; decorative children’s sections, Mrs M. Glasgow. Award of merit certificates were won as follows: —
Amateur gladioli, Mrs F. M. Alexander; amateur dahlia, H. Stevens; novice, A. Ramsay; carnations, D. Whitte; cut blooms, Miss G. Hegarty; amateur decorative, Mrs H. Powell; open, Mrs R I. Lamb; fruit, M. J. Staunton; vegetables, M. J. Staunton; adult cooking, Mrs R. Stevenson; preserves, Mrs H. Powell.
