SILK FABRIC INTERESTS
World Congress In * London (By Z4LU THOMAS] LONDON, January 30. Silk interests in 24 countries will be represented at the eighth congress of the International Silk Association to be held in London from June 12 to June 16. Among the countsies which will be represented are the United States of America (the largest producer of silk fabrics in the world), Japan (the largest producer of raw silk in the world), France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, India, Austria. Spain, Belgium, and the Lebanon.
In the two years since the seventh international silk congress in Munich, silk, which has never been out of fashion at the top, end of the trade, has made the most astonishing come-back in the middle to lower price ranges—so much so that in 1961 there will continue to be a world-wide demand for it. Silk has a high standard of beauty and quality, but price, and to some extent the pressure of the newer fibres, prevented its return to general popularity after the war. Entertainments Entertainments for the delegates attending the congress and their wives, have been arranged and will include a Government reception at Lancaster House, a gala concert and champagne supper at f the Royal Festival Hall, and an excursion to Brighton for the women with a luncheon in the banqueting hall of the Royal Pavilion; and, on the last night, a banquet at Guildhall at which the Lord Mayor, the Mayoress, and sheriffs and their wives will be present
