GLAMOROUS LINGERIE
Many Synthetic Fabrics Used IBy ZALIA THOMAS} LONDON, December 19. Since the advent of synthetic fibres, inexpensive lingerie has become more and more glamorous and lace and frills are no longer avoided because of laundering difficulties. In place of the old “shapeless” undergarments of yesteryear, the lingerie of today is designed to fit snugly to the figure and to complement the ensemble under which it is worn. With this in view, a London firm has produced a collection of slips which are sheath slim and have mitered side and back vents, plus flat-lying lace hems, designed to wear under the season’s "slinky” line garments. Bri-nylon satin is widely used throughout the collection, either for deep hems or set between layers of lace.
A useful addition to most women’s wardrobes would be the scooped-necked, figure-hugging camisole designed to hide the unsightly shoulder straps which so often mar the effect of sheer dresses or blouses. Glamorous sounding colours include eau de Nile, wistaria, crocus yellow, sugar peach, and golden sand. Shaped Bodice
The firm believes there is a new trend towards shaped bodices in nightdresses and show a waltzlength gown of two layers of nylon—white clouding blue, or yellow, or pink; the brassierecut bodice is surrounded with white lace and cuffed with folded, white 15 denier nylon. Another in double denier nylon has the bustline defined by broad satin ribbons. Covered with sheer 15 denier nylon, it is shaped like a “tear drop” and furled in at the hemline. For very special occasions, an all lace full-length nightgown with a high Empire line bodice is trimmed with double-row edgings of lace slotted with satin ribbon and ruffles vt 15 denier nylon; another—appliqued with lace motifs—has an opaque inner bodice which is fashioned brawise to give support. Expressly for the teen-agers are pyjamas with tops finishing just above the natural waistline. These are teamed with matador pants which rise high above the waist
