TOURIST HOTEL FOR AUCKLAND
Warning By Visitor From U.S. (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 2. Mr Paul Keen, of San Francisco, a world authority on tree diseases, warned on Saturday that the big tourist hotel planned for Auckland would cause trouble in other centres. Mr Keen said: “The Auckland hotel will be American for ever. Tourists will arrive in Auckland, stay at a luxurious hotel, and expect the same accommodation right throughout the country. And if it isn’t as good they’ll want to know why. Tourists can really make a noise when they want to.” Mr Keen said the first thing he had noticed about New Zealand was the butter. “In America I never tasted butter that could match this.” he said.
