HOUSING AREA IN TAURANGA

Old Cemetery Site To Be Used (New Zealand Press Association) TAURANGA. December 27. The division of the old cemetery site at Tauranga for additional housing within the borough has been authorised by the borough council. The Town Clerk (Mr L. Butters) said there would be room for 60 houses on the land available. A new cemetery would be established in two or three years on a site to be acquired. At a meeting of the finance committee, a suggestion was made that playing fields could be established on the old cemetery site. The Mayor (Mr D. S. Mitchell) said the council would lose a suitable area for housing development and up to £lOOO a year in rates. A report will be made to the council by the borough engineer (Mr H. M. Binney) on further development of existing reserves.
