TOLL SERVICE DISRUPTED
Dragline Breaks Cable
(New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON N., Dec. 15.
Wellington’s toll connexions with the rest of the North Island were disrupted this afternoon through a break in the coaxial cable at Whirokino. The break was caused about 3 p.m. when a Manawatu Catchment Board dragline fouled the cable when digging a drain under the Whirokino trestle bridge. The extent of the damage to the cable is not known, but if some length of the cable has been stretched it may cost some hundreds of pounds to repair it AU coaxial circuits were lost, but jointers from Palmerston North tonight connected the tubes with temporary cable to restore the circuits.
ToU connexion between Wellington and points north was maintained on a limited number of aerial circuits which have been retained from the system which operated before the coaxial cable came into operation.
