TROTTING ROI L'OR STAKES AT WAIMATE

Summit Road Looks Likely Prospect

Summit Road, fourth in the Riccarton Stakes, third in the Metropolitan Challenge Stakes, and fifth in the New Zealand Derby Stakes at Addington last month, looks favourably placed to win the Roi I’Or Stakes, a race for three-year-olds at the Waimate Trotting Club’s annual meeting today.

Summit Road won the New Zealand Golden Slipper Stakes at this meeting 12 months ago. He has had a long list of placings since then and after his fine form at Addington, should be too good for the weaker opposition he willencounter in this race.

Lyrical finished solidly for third to Robin Dundee and Gold Globe in the New Zealand Oaks at New Brighton last Saturday and if she races as generously in this field, she should be the hardest for Summit Road to beat.

Flying Fiver was a decisive winner at Wyndham on November 5 and raced prominently at a recent trials meeting in Southland He is a stablemate of Flying Note, one of the top-ranked three.-year-olds of the present season.

Carver Doon could cause an upset. He is a brother to the promising Peebles and will be having his first race start. He

qualified very easily recently at Orari,' recording the fast time of 3min 19sec for 12 furlongs. If he races as well today, he should be prominent. Adios Heather, Morsel. Wekin. and Silvester are others expected to race prominently. The double will be run on the Waimate Cup and the Williams Campbell Handicap. Fair weather is forecast for today and the track should be in good order, although a little on the easy side.
