Bradley Visits Suburbs With Detectives
SYDNEY, November 21.
Handcuffed to police Stephen Leslie Bradley spent three hours this afternoon visiting areas on Sydney’s north shore.
Bradley was led from his cell at the Criminal Investigation Branch headquarters early this afternoon handcuffed between two detectives. He was placed in a police car in the CJ.B. yard and driven to the north shore. He spent three hours there with police under Detective-Sergeant E. Freeman
Bradley, aged 34. formerly of Osborne street. Manly, appeared in the Central Court of Petty Sessions on Saturday charged with the murder of a Bonds boy, Graeme Thorne, aged eight, on or about July 7. Only police were present when Bradley with his escort entered a car outside the C. 1.8. courtyard today. One of the detectives slid into the car followed by Bradley and the other escort.
Detective - Sergeant Freeman then gave the driver ipstructions to cross the Harbour Bridge and directed him to an area near the Municipality of Manly. Still handcuffed, Bradley
reached the first rendezvous and had a lengthy conversation with the police. During the first discussions he pointed to certain spots. He was then placed back in the car and taken to other spots on the northern side of the harbour. After other discussions with the police, Bradley was then driven
back to the C. 1.8. and placed in the cell which he has occupied since Saturday. The sensational trip to suburbs on the northern side of the Harbour Bridge came after a conference between Bradley and senior detectives yesterday. One of the detectives present at the conference was DetectiveSergeant J Bateman, who was one of Bradley’s escorts when he arrived in Sydney from Colombo on Saturday morning. A publie defender will appear for Bradley at the opening of the inquest on the death of Graeme Thome tomorrow. Bradley will appear at the inquest, which will begin in the Sydney Coroner's Court.
An application was made to the New South Wales Department of Justice today to arrange legal representation for Bradley. A spokesman for the department said a public defender, probably a Mr Vizzard. would appear for Bradley Earlier, a Sydney firm of solicitors, Gilbert Johnstone and Company, decided not ■ to act for Bradley. A partner in the firm, Mr R. W. Holt, said the application to the Justice Department was made “on Bradley’s instructions. My firm is no longer associated with Bradley.” Mr Holt said. A
