STORAGE OF WHEAT
No Change In Increments
Storage increments paid to farmers on wheat harvested next year will be the same as for last harvest. This was announced by the general manager of the Wheat Committee, Mr L. C. Dunshea.
“The Government has approved the payment to farmers of storage increments on wheat harvested in 1961 at the same rates and on the same conditions as for 1960, in accordance with the proposal of United Wheatgrowers (N.Z.) Ltd. and the Dominion Agricultural Section of Federated Farmers.” said Mr Dunshea. “The payment applies to milling standard wheat either stored by the farmer on his own farm or in an outside store on the farmer’s account.”
Mr Dunshea said that this scale of payments applied to wheat grown in areas north of a straight line drawn from Waikouaiti to Queenstown. Storage payments on wheat grown south of this line would begin one month later and reach a maximum of 9d a bushel in October. Earlier this week Mr Dunshea explained that an amendment to the Board of Trade (Wheat and Flour) Regulations provided authority for a growers’ contribution of a halfpenny a bushel towards the cost of farmers’ storage payments next harvest. This was in accordance with an agreement reached between United Wheatgrowers and the Dominion Agriculture Section of Federated Farmers.
The rates of payment are: Time of delivery d per bushel April 3 May 5 June .. 7 July 8 August 8J September 9
