(N.Z. Press Association-Copyright)

IMtTDOS, November 19. Tottenham’s unbeaten run ended last week, but any fears that the defeat might have shaken its confidence were ruthlessly dispelled today when it crushed Birmingham 6-0 in the first division df the English Soccer League. Showing the sparkling rhythm that took the team through 16 games without defeat, Spurs continued to set the pace in the championship race. Sheffield Wednesday, failing to capitalise on last week's win by going down 2-1 at Leicester today, allowed Tottenham to increase its lead at the top of the table to seven points. Twerity-year-old J. Greaves, of Chelsea, scored a “hat-trick” in Chelsea’s 6-3 win over Manchester City to reach his 100th goal in league football in only 133 games.

Sheffield Wednesday’s defeat—its second of the season—closed the ranks behind Tottenham.

Only a superior goal average kept the Sheffield club in second place ahead of Everton who trounced Newcastle 5-0, Both have 26 points. Better Goal Average Close on their heels come Burnley and Wolverhampton, each with 24 points after wins today. Burnley won 5-3 at Bolton, and has the better goal average. Wolves won 3-0 at home to Preston. The surprise result in the first division was the 4-2 home defeat of West Ham by Nottingham Forest, which is bottom of the table. Sheffield United continued its good run at the top of the second division with a 3-1 win over Rotherham. United now has a lead of seven points over Liverpool which won 3-1 at Charlton. Ipswich failed at Portsmouth and now shares third place, one point behind Liverpool, with Norwich and Southampton. Bury improved its position at the top of division three. The side won 3-0 at Bournemouth and now has 31 points—four more than Grimsby Town, the nearest rivals. Two points behind Grimsby are Torquay and Queen’s Park Rangers, both of whom drew today.

Crystal Palace increased its lead in the fqurth division by beating Workington 4-2. The second-placed team, Peterborough, was held to a 1-1 draw at home by York.
