MYSTERY ENVELOPE PROJECT
Tax Remission Sought Remission of a £3OOO lottery tax bill, after running the mystery envelope scheme to aid the Town Hall Funds, is being sought by the Christdhurch Junior Chamber. A total of £30,000 was received from the sale of mystery envelopes and the Internal Affairs Department has written asking for 10 per cent, of this, said the president of the chamber (Mr P. D. Dunbar) yesterday. He explained that it was known by his organisation that there would be a tax bill, as when a licence was granted by the department it was understood that the proceeds would be subject to lottery tax. The Junior Chamber was seeking a remission—not appealing against the imposition of the tax, said Mr Dunbar.
