GLOBEMASTERS FLY SOUTH
Short Improvement In Radio Link A temporary improvement in teh radio link between Christchurch Airport and McMurdo Sound allowed two Globemasters and a Super Constellation to leave for McMurdo Sound on Saturday and three Globemasters to leave yesterday. The aircraft that left on Saturday returned to Harewood early yesterday morning. . The radio news from McMurdo Sound which came through on Saturday was the first for 140 hours. Magnetic storms had disrupted all radio communications in that time. The link was only for a short time, and any communication with McMurdo Sound is now going through a single band voice circuit, as normal code messages cannot be received.
