SPRAY PAINTING HAZARD

Damage To Cars

The spray painting of buildings was becoming a hazard to motor vehicles, the South Island Motor Union executive agreed yesterday; but it did not see what action could be taken at present. The Automobile Association (Otago) lodged the complaint and it was mentioned that one member had to have his car repainted twice in two years because of spray-paint damage.

The situation was recognised under public risk policies and the insurance companies made no bones about paying out, said Mr C. Harvey (Southland). That was all very well, said Mr T. E. V. Turpin (Otago), but could not the scaffolding regulations be amended to insist on adequate screens when spraypainting of buildings was being done. In one case he knew, spray had travelled 450 ft

The executive decided to take no action in the meantime.
