Fire Damages Bathroom
A fire severely damaged a bathroom of a house at 7 Hanmer street Linwood, about 3 a.m yesterday. The owner of the house, Mr R. Lyne, was awakened by a loud crash from the bathroom, and found the hallway full of smoke when he went to investigate. Mr Lyne gathered some clothes, while his wife telephoned the fire brigade, and then they made to safety. One engine from the Central Fire Station attended the fire in the old-style house, which had been converted into two flats. The fire had a good hold, but was restricted mainly to the bathroom. apart from some slight damage done to a shed. The fire brigade said the fire had broken out in the bathroom, but neither the brigade nor Mr Lyne knew how it started.
