INTRUDERS ENTER FOUR PREMISES
Police Constable’s Vain Chase
(New Zealand Press Association) MASTERTON, July 29. When a police constable disturbed intruders in a shop in Queen street, Masterton, early this morning, his investigations led to the discovery of at, least four other instances of breaking and entering in the commercial area of the town.
Constable J. Pringle heard the splintering of wood coming from the premises of J. R. Wakelin, outfitters, in Queen street. The intruders escaped by breaking through the plate glass double doors at the front of the shop. The constable gave chase but the offenders had a good start, and escaped. Entry was gained through a skylight. The constable apparently disturbed the intruders before they disturbed anything. Investigations by Masterton detectives toddy led to the discovery that four other business premises in Masterton were entered last night. The sum of £2O was taken from the offices of Gawith and Neild, solicitors.
