OFFICIAL ENDING OF EMERGENCY
New. Zealanders’ Part In Malayan Ceremonies
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 29. New Zealand will take part in the Commonwealth' military review and fly-past in Kuala Lumpur on Monday in connexion with the official ending at midnight on Sunday of the 12-year Malayan anti-Communist emergency. Servicemen, including 1000 soldiers from all Commonwealth countries at present qn service in Malaya, as well as contingents from Rhodesia, Kenya and Fiji which have previously served, will take part in the march past together with the Malayan Police Force.
New Zealand will be represented by member- of the 2nd Battalion, personnel from the R.N.Z.A.F.’s two squadrons serving in the area and a contingent from the R.N.Z.N. frigate, Rotoiti. at present in the Far'East station The chief of the General Staff ( Major-General Sir Stephen Weir) will represent New Zealand Chiefs of Staff. The R.N.Z.A.F. representative will be Squadron Leader G. R. B. Highet of Wellington.
