BROTHERS GUILTY OF FRAUD
One Sent To Gaol, Other Remanded (New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, July 29. A 51-year-old workman. Joseph la Hood, of no fixed abode,' was sent to prison for six months by Mr N. M. Izard, S.M., in the Timaru Magistrate’s Court this morning. La Hood admitted a charge of false pretences in that he cashed a valueless cheque for £l5 at Dunedin on February 27. La Hood was. stated to have ■ 21 previous convictions for false pretences. Remanded Albert George la Hood, aged 45, a brother of the first accused, admitted three charges of false pretences. The Magistrate said that tn view of la Hood’s previous list of some eighty convictions, he would be remanded to the Supreme ’Court in Christchurch for sentence.
Converted Car Not Found.—A blue and grey 1954 Vauxhall Wyvern car, registered number 574-451, taken from Battersea street, Sydenham, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on July 28, has not yet been recovered by the police.
