MAN SURPRISES INTRUDER
Struggle Outside Office (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 29. A 23-year-old man, Mr A. J. Goss, called out vainly for help for some minutes last night while he grappled with a burly intruder in his firm’s office in Albert street: Auckland. He found the man lurking in the basement. The intruder told Mr Goss he had chased a burglar he had seen entering the building. The intruder insisted on helping Mr Goss search the building but when the latter decided to call the police, the intruder said he would go outside to see some friends. When Mr Goss tried to prevent him leaving, he received a blow in the face and another over the head from a bag the man was holding. They grappled outside the office in view of passers by who ignored calls for help. Finally several young men came to Mr Goss’s aid and the man was subdued and arrested by police
