FASHIONS FOR RACING

Showing On TV

Fashion winners for racing were shown on television in Christchurch yesterday. The accent was oh accessories complementing simple, elegant outfits and on feminine hats which were often no more than a whimsical froth Of tulle and flowers. The parade was seen pn a closed television circuit at Beath and Company, Ltd. It was compered by Mrs M. Bain Hogg. As a foil to the interesting accessories, the two models had chosen simply-cut suits—one of Windsor grey worsted, featuring a dark grey and white striped collar and belt, and the other a pale blonde light-weight wool, buttoned down the front with a sheath skirt.

A new colour made its appearance teamed with the Windsor grey. It .was demonstrated in a head-hugging toque hat lavishly embroidered with jet beads and fashioned in folded bands of white with topaz. Slanted for race week was the graceful “punter” hat of scarlet felt banded with matching chiffon. The deep, dipping brim flattered the curved neckline of the blonde suit and was teamed with a mass of pearl beads, a red handbag and white hand-stitched kid gloves. Two shades of grey satin were swathed and gathered from the narrow brim to the high crown of another model toque. With it went a long umbrella in the same two tonings and multi-stranded topaz beads. Appealing Appealing and feminine was the mimosa yellow hat of fine tulle and organza petals. This was topped with a large fullblown rose of creamy satin and was worn with natural pig-skin gloves and a Windsor grey handbag.

For a striking contrast the blonde suit was teamed with a dashing black and white bowler hat crowned with black veiling. Black hand-stitched gloves of fine kid and tailored black handbag completed the ensemble. The favourite all - white ensemble was demonstrated with a white stitched felt hat with an upturned brim, a white umbrella and white gloves. After this came a spicy note of spring in a green satin toque Covered with violets, a matching green umbrella and white gloves. A bunch of violets pinned to the pocket of the white suit put the finishing touch to this outfit.

A mimosa yellow hat and a bouquet of cream and yellow flowers also made a charming splash of colour. This was accentuated by all-white accessories.
