Orchestra Proposal

Sir, —'While there is a definite need for an orchestra in our city, a semi-professional group of 15 members will not suffice. We had an orchestra—the former 3YA—of 21 players, which had coot exactly £5OOO a y«ir; and because it was a semi-professional body it never reached the required standard. A centralised theatre orchestra is what we could use best, centralised in Wellington. of course, but with players drawn from all over the country. Reliable sources confirm that there still are excellent musicians in New Zealand available for a fully professional theatre orchestra, which would then be available to all those societies which need orchestral accompaniment.—Yours, etc.. I.K. July 21, 1960.
