EXTENSIONS TO HOTELS
Corporation’s Plans (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 22. Additional accommodation at tourist hotels was vital to keep pace with the expansion of the tourist industry in New Zealand, said the annual report of the Tourist Hotel Corporation, tabled in the House of Representatives today. To achieve this, the following projects. listed in order of priority, are planned:
The Hermitage: An additional 42 beds to bring capacity up to the original total visualised. 135 Te Anau Hotel: Additional single and twin rooms (with baths), for 10 persons. Wairakei Hotel: Additional single and twin rooms (with baths), for 30 persons. Milford Hotel: Additional single and twin rooms (with baths), for 36 persons.
The report said the policy of Installing sprinklers in all hotels to minimise fire, losses was continued. " When installation at the Waitomo and Milford Hotels was completed, five, of the corporation’s nine hotels would have the sprinklers, leaving only Wairakei, the Chateau, Eichardt’s and Te Anau to be equipped. Among new facilities planned were a “Top o’ the Bruce” building at the Chateau to house hire equipment for ski-ing, a walk-in grocery shop and refreshment kiosk, also an enlarged cocktail bar and cafeteria. A new cocktail bar and recreation room was planned for Waitomo, and a conference hall, •recreation room and bus shelter for Wairakei.
