SKYSCRAPER PLANNED

Project (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 22. Plans for a 16-storey skyscraper to be built at a cost of about £425,000 in Queen street, Auckland, have been annourfced by the Auckland manager of the Norwich Union Life Insurance Society (Mr B. G. Thomson). Preliminary’plans for the proposed building which will tower 190 ft from the site at present occupied by the Metropolitan Hotel at the corner of Queen and Durham streets, have been completed. , They have been passed by the Auckland City .Council town-planning committee and will be submitted to the city council for final approval on Monday night. If approval is granted, the .building will be the third tallest planned so far for the city. The two ahead of it are the Kerridge - Odeon skyscraper (327 ft and the Auckland City Council administration block (240 ft Mr Thomson considers that, if all goes well, construction of the skyscraper could start in about 18 months.
