However, today, Mr Deslandes was denied further supplies of 701 b bags of Sugar, a commodity that was meeting a ready demand from the bargain-seeking customer.
Mr Deslandes tried to obtain bags of sugar from three different sources but in each instance he was unsuccessful.
“They are starting to get at me, but so long as I can obtain a supply of even one article I shall continue selling cost price groceries to the publis,” he said. Mr Deslandes said he had sold 79 bags of sugar and 52 boxes of tea this week.
“If that is not Interfering with someone’s turnover I will be surprised,” he said.
Both Mr Deslandes and Mr Woods remained open this evening till 9 o’clock to sell groceries. One Feilding grocery store manager, asked to s. comment said: “Jolly good luck to them. They should start selling coal, too.” Mr Deslandes said if coal was a little cleaner, he would certainly sell it as well, if the grocer started.
