FARM SOLD AT £94 AN ACRE
Reserve Not Reached At Auction (From Out Own Reporter) TIMARU. July 22. A 602 acre property at Hazelburn was sold here today as one block at £94 an acre. The purchaser was Mr W. J. McHaffie. The property: owned by Mr M. S. Macpherson, which is situated 23 miles from Timaru and U miles’from Pleasant Point, was put up at auction in the Returned Services’ Association’s club rooms by Wright, Stephenson and Company. Pers'bns interested in the sale overflowed into the street outside the clubrooms.
At auction the property, which carries 2600 ewes and 650 hoggets, was 'passed in at £BO an acre. The sale was negotiated Idler and this evening Mr McHaffie, of Totara Valley, disclosed that'the price agreed on was £94 an acre. Mrs H. E. Blackler, of Glen Hays, Pleasant Point, said that the land was first purchased by James and John McKay in 1859 Mr Owen Blackler, father of Mr H. E. Blackler, acquired the property in 1888 and it was sold to Mr Macpherson in 1953.
