AGREEMENT ON MANGERE
Changes Sought By Council
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 22. The Government draft agreement on Mangere airport has been sent back with minor alterations and a request that the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr Mathison) arrange a time to meet the Auckland city solicitor (Mr H. J. Butler) to discuss them. The territorial airport committee discussed the Government draft and the city draft with the amendments infrom 10 a.m. to 1.15 p.m today. No details of the agreement were given, but the Mayor of Auckland (Mr D. M. Robinson) said the Government draft fqlly covered the principles agreed upon.
The basis of the agreement is that the Government undertakes to adjust airport dues to meet all charges applicable to the construction of the airport by the end of six years from the date of the signing of the agreement Mr Robinson said the amendments the airport committee wanted were concerned with operational machinery. The ’city council draft was posted to the Minister tonight. Mr Robinson said it was hoped that final agreement would be reached, city council approval obtained, and the agreement signed by mid-August.
