NORFOLK ISLAND WHALING
Directors Report On Operations Operations of Norfolk Island and Byron Bay Whaling Co., Ltd., from Byron Bay have resulted in 15 whales being taken, directors report. Cyclonic disturbances early tn June caused considerable damage to the jetty at Byron Bay, but the station was able to begin operations on July 14. Operations were commenced at Norfolk Island in mid-June and five whales were taken by June 24. bringing the total to 37. At Barrier Island, New Zealand, 127 whales have been taken since May 31. This already exceeds last season’s 104 whales. The first consignment of 500 tons of oil was shipped early in July, and a second shipment of 460 tons is due for loading in a week’s time. Stocks of oil exceed 460 tons.
