The survey, based on a study of ! changes to family budgeting 6ver . the last 20 years, said the avert age Soviet family was now eat- - tog 2.4 times more meat, lard and J eggs than in 1940. The buying of , clothes had trebled and purchases ; of radios, television sets and books - were now 15 times greater. . The survey was based on the ' budgets of 51,000 families to vari- ! ous wts of the country. “The basic necessities of life are ■ already available in plenty for • the Soviet people,” it said, “and I bright prospects are openihg up of - reaching the world’s highest standard of living,”
