Town Hall Site
Sir,—What wonderful nows! The city fathers are not as obdurate (or is it obstinate?) as they have seemed to those of us who bewailed the thought o’f losing a beautiful building and an already well-organised and presentable part of our city. Can we not visualise a whole, beautiful and useful administrative and cultural centre utilising the Civic Theatre for small affairs and a handsome new town hall leading from it adjacent for large civic functions? A .real face-lift for Christchurch and not so costly or wasteful and more useful without 'having to “cross the river.” Some [added enthusiasm may be expected from all the doubters who did not fancy going so far from the real centre of the city in shop and office area, already in good service, for a trip to pay rates.— Yours, etc., PRACTICAL MATTERS.
