CITY ENGINEER’S STAFF

Additions Approved

Additions to the staff of the City Engineer’s department were approved by the City Council after it had heard from the works committee of the amount of work required of the design and supervision sections to meet the required output of contracts under the council’s three road loans.

In the design section it agreed that there should be another graduate engineer for surveys, soil surveys, design and specification of roads and street works, two chainmen and a senior draughtsman to ensure virtually full-time services of one draughtsman on road drawings. In the districts, the council agreed that there should be two more field assistants appointed, a clerk of works experienced in roading work, and possibly a second.

The council approved the appointment of Mr D. H. Towart, a civil engineering graduate, to the position of staff engineer in the design section. From nine applications for a position of clerk of works for the airport and roading, the council appointed Mr H. A. Rush, who is at present employed temporarily by the council as a clerk of works.
