CANTERBURY AERO CLUB
Successful Year Reported “What we are here to do is to promote flying and provide instruction in flying. In this respect it has been a successful year,” said the president of the Canterbury Aero Club (Mr R. M. Buchanan), presenting his report at the annual meeting of the club last evening. Mr Buchanan said the standard of maintenance of the club’s aircraft and the ability of the instructors had now reached the level desired by the club.
The 77 pilots m training was probably the highest number of any aero club in New Zealand, said Mr D Donovan. Aero clubs were the only source of raw pilot material for the Royal New Zealand Air Force and air lines. Because of this the Government subsidy on flying training was of particular help to clubs. Officers elected were: patron, Mr H. Worrall; president, Mr R. M. Buchanan; vice-president, Mr D. Donovan; club captain, Mr G. J. Davidson; treasurer, Mr G. J. Williamson; committee, Messrs J. R. Best, W. H. Grainger, R. M. Fechney and R. H. Hassall Messrs W. R. Ensor, J. L. Ower, J. S. Macdonald, and G. L. Small carried over their appointment from the previous year. %
