EASTER HOLIDAY SHOPPING
Four-Day Break For Retailers The Easter holidays are one of the longest breaks during the year and housewives will again have to stock their refrigerators and larders for the minimum four-day period. City butchers will close at 5 p.m. on Thursday and re-open on Tuesday. New Brighton butchers will observe the same hours. Fresh bread will be available on Thursday, Saturday and Tuesday. Retailers in the city will have Thursday night as the late shopping night and will open again on Tuesday morning. The New Brighton retailers will close on Thursday at 5 p.m. and will be open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and then re-open on Tuesday. . The Stock Exchange and Government departments will close on Thursday evening and reopen on Wednesday morning. This will be the first time since the war that the Stock Exchange has observed the shorter holiday. Lawyers will close on Thursday and start work again on April 26. Their holiday will also include Anzac day. The St. John’s ambulance will be available throughout the holidays and will provide the names of doctors to be called in an emergency.
