TUNKU ARRIVES AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE

WELLINGTON, January 19. The Prime Minister of Malaya, Tunku Abdul Rahman, arrived at Government House this evening. Greeted by their Excellencies, Lord and Lady Cobham, he was soon in animated discussion with them, smiling broadly and bringing golf and fishing into the conversation. After his arrival in the city today the Tunku and his party made a brief visit to the Ministerial residence of Mr E. T. Tirikatene, where presentations were made to the Tunku and members of his family. The Tunku and his son each accepted a silver cigarette case and greenstone cuff links. The two daughters of Mr and Mrs Tirikatene introduced an old Maori custom to their guests and took off the greenstone earrings they Were wearing and presented them to the Tunku’s wife and the wife of his aide.

Until Friday the Tunku and the members of his family will be guests at Government House. They will then transfer to a hotel

where other members of the party are staying. Tomorrow the Tunku will give a press interview at Government House and then travel to Trentham to attend the 34th annual New Zealand national sales of throughbred yearlings. He is expected to bid for one horse.

He will return to Wellington after lunch and give an afternoon tea to Malayan Colombo Plan students.

There will be a dinner party at Government House to-morrow night. On Thursday the Tunku will make formal calls on the Mayor of Wellington (Mr F. J. Kitts) and the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) and attend a state luncheon.

There will be a day trip to the Masterton area on Friday, a day at the Trentham races on Saturday, sightseeing on Sunday, and another day at the races on Monday. On Tuesday he will fly to Christchurch, spend three hours there, fly to Auckland and leave New Zealand for Sydney on Wednesday morning.
